Have you been thinking about hiring an editor, but you’re unsure what it would be like to work with one–to work with me? Are you nervous, scared even, to share your writing? Take a look at what two of my current clients and one very recent one had to say to me after reviewing my edits on their books. They’re still revising–I’m still editing sections of Kasey’s and Lynn’s–so their books aren’t available yet. But as you can see, they’ve found a lot of value in working with me.
Kasey, YA sci-fi:
“I’d like to start by saying, wow. Honestly, your comments and edits are marvelous. You take my jumbled words and transform them into fluid sentences. What a difference your enhancements make, I am just over the moon. …I truly can’t thank you enough for being so diligent and patient with my writing and with me. It means so much, so thank you.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed this round of edits. They’ve been tremendously helpful. I knew there was a lot that needed to be worked on but I wasn’t sure what exactly needed the work. It’s very hard to take a step back from your own writing to realize what needs fixed. But your edits, concerns and frankly blunt comments to my writing has showed me things that will need to be changed drastically. Your eye for details and ability to be picky in some instances (I promise I’m not complaining) is exactly what I was looking for when I contacted you! I can’t thank you enough for being so honest and open with me. … You’re amazing and I love working with you.”
Lynn, YA ghost story/suspense:
“You are so encouraging and thorough in what I’m supposed to do and how to do it. I can’t thank you enough, and I have great faith in you.”
“I think you’re really smart, and I want to say I appreciate your intellect. I have never once thought, in all your comments, that you didn’t ‘get it.’ I feel truly blessed to have found you.”
Desiree, Western/fantasy mash-up:
“Part of me wishes that I sat at the table across from you while you read it and said, ‘Nope! Mono wouldn’t work,’ or ‘Nope, you can’t use the word lighters.’ I can almost see you waving a finger at me when you say this. LOL! Excellent catches. …If this story has even a chance of becoming readable, it needs your honesty. You did exactly what I asked you to do for me and I appreciate it.”
“I appreciate all of your honest comments, and I will take my time going through them one at a time. I have learned a lot.”
Has this helped ease some of your concerns? Are you feeling less anxious? It’s not easy to hand over your writing. I know that. But as you can see from Kasey’s, Lynn’s, and Desiree’s comments (all of whom are first-time writers), I work hard to make it a worthwhile, fun, relaxed process.
